Andrea King, Therapy Assistant, Rehab Services
In the short time Andrea has worked at St. Mary’s she has already made big things happen for the site. She brings new and creative ways to serve and to improve the lives of the residents. Her vision goes beyond maintaining the level of care in Long Term Care, as she has a vision to help residents grow and gain more abilities while in care. One resident had not been able to do any writing for years. Andrea worked steadily with him and the team celebrated his great achievement of being able to draw a clock for the first time in many years.
Andrea took unused materials from the rehabilitation department, designed and sewed a new cushion for a resident to make their wheelchair more comfortable and suitable. Andrea creates games, crafts, and activities for residents and brings in a volunteer to assist as needed. This ensures that all residents, regardless of barriers they face, can participate and can benefit from an activity each week.
Andrea is a great asset to the whole facility and regularly participates in site meetings. Her insights into the needs and abilities of the residents are very valuable; she regularly brings forward a perspective that helps the team develop new initiatives to improve the quality of care provided to residents.
