Robert (Bob) G. Kelly, Volunteer Services

A local celebrity at the Edmonton General, Bob is adored by staff and residents alike. For 14 years, Bob has volunteered weekly at the Edmonton General to share his musical talents with residents and staff. He will often visit outside his regular volunteer shifts to perform at a resident’s birthday celebration or special event, and these occasions are always made extra special when he is there. When he isn’t performing, Bob always takes the time to talk with residents, and even takes the time to learn a new song for residents if they request it.

Bob typically performs on units in common areas, but he often takes the time to go into residents’ rooms to play for those who are unable to leave when they are not feeling well. Bob’s music is a way to break down barriers, lift people’s spirits and bring joy to those who are especially ill or isolated. His genuine love of music, community and residents are apparent in all he does and in the many gifts he brings to the Edmonton General.
