Mark Cordova, recreational assistant

Mark is a recreational assistant and the unofficial “go-to-IT-guy” at St. Teresa Place. His caring nature, his knowledge of IT and his commitment to stewardship has led him to find opportunities to avoid waste while also making life better for residents.

Mark uses his IT skills to help residents with their TVs, personal iPads and phones and smart devices like Google Home and Alexa. He maintains their devices, teaches them how to use them and finds solutions when they encounter problems. When a visually impaired resident who uses a Google device was suddenly disconnected from the Internet, Mark set up a temporary Alexa device so the resident could still connect to the world and his music while Mark searched for a solution.

Mark also finds ways to use available technology to improve and create enriching programs. He recorded himself doing seated exercise programs so other recreation staff could use the recordings during outbreak periods, or when a staff member could not lead a class due to injury or time issues.

Mark uses creative technology interventions to supports residents’ independence and quality of life. And his caring for their well-being and commitment to stewardship is improving and enriching their lives every day.
