Glenn Matthews, occupational therapist

Glenn consistently goes above and beyond in his care of acute care patients at Banff Mineral Springs Hospital, the residents of St. Martha’s Place, families, staff and visitors.

Glenn respects each person's values, culture, choices and decisions while balancing the needs of others. Glenn demonstrates respect in his communication style, through simple acts of calling residents by their preferred names and always getting down to their level to make eye contact. He speaks to patients and residents with genuine care, concern and interest in their lives. His respect for their stories always preserves the dignity of the client. His laughter always brings them joy. He regularly plays guitar in the evenings for the seniors and comes in after hours and facilitates "pub night".

Glenn learns about the beliefs and values of others and uses the knowledge to provide better care. He has incredible insight into the needs of others. Patient, resident and family involvement is important to Glenn whether it is the fitting of a chair or hip protectors or going for a ride on the adaptive bike. Glenn ensures they are part of the decision making whenever possible. He is always in tune with their needs and is willing to help. He adjusts care and service delivery to accommodate the individual needs of those being served.
