The G.F. MacDonald Centre for Lung Health
Chronic lung disease has profound economic, social and health impacts related to the frailty caused by chronic pulmonary disorders. The G.F. Centre for Lung Health plays an important role in serving these patients, connecting them with the full breadth of clinical and spiritual supports available.
While patients may live hours away from the Centre itself, staff are diligent in fostering a unique community experience for patients, using technology to share information and seeking engagement and discussion. They team leads pulmonary health education for many sites across the province, allowing patients to have group discussions while learning from the staff’s extensive knowledge and expertise.
Critical to excellent patient outcomes is the Centre’s dedication to collaborating with teams all over Alberta to deliver their Breathe Easy team to patients via Telehealth. Fostering strong, professional relationships with other healthcare practitioners promotes informed, connected and empowered clinicians who care for a vulnerable patient population that may not otherwise have access to Breathe Easy in their rural locations. The team proactively shares learnings with other sites and clinicians to improve their gold-standard service, enhancing quality of life for many patients.
