Nursing staff on units 4 and 5 and the environmental services team assigned to help with renovation preparations

Youville Home is undergoing a major renovation project on units 4 and 5. Many stakeholders are involved to ensure the ongoing success of the renovation. Communication and inclusion are key to success.

Unit 4 and 5 resident care managers (RCM) and the unit clerk ensure residents, staff and families receive information about timelines, move dates and movements of residents. The RCMs spent many hours contacting families and residents, tracking their requests and carrying them out.

The unit clerk worked with the RCMs to orchestrate moves and to address residents’ families’ concerns. She documented the moves and worked with vendors to get computers, phones and fax machines set up to deliver care.

The scheduling department scheduled extra staff for the moves.

Nursing staff, knowing some residents would have a harder time with the moves, took residents to their new unit the day before the move to lessen anxiety by letting them see their new space and meet the staff in their new unit.

The RCMs and the unit clerk worked with nursing staff, environmental services team and moving contractors to provide clear direction and hands-on support. The nursing team worked with residents to pack their special belongings with care and set up their belongings up in their new rooms. The contracted furniture movers carefully moved everything. They worked with staff to ensure the move and transition were seamless for residents.
