Shelly Dalueg, outpatient therapist

In 1992, Shelly Dalueg, outpatient therapist, formed a Clozaril support group with the help of Dr. Suna Smith which has since served thousands of patients with a schizophrenia diagnosis in the Camrose community. The group benefits from regularly organized bloodwork and counselling on basic life skills, mental health needs, dietary needs and even grocery shopping. Currently 40 clients actively participate in a weekly group session at St. Mary’s Hospital. This program has successfully kept participants in their own homes and communities. Shelly’s people-centric focus has led to this success and the long-term sustainability of this community program.

Recognizing this group needs to have something to look forward to, Shelly has been instrumental in setting up a day specifically for these clients to have a wellness check. At this yearly clinic, the clients receive their influenza vaccine and have their vital signs and blood sugar checked. Each year since 1999, Shelly has organized a trip to Candy Cane Lane in Edmonton which allows clients to feel part of something magical.

Although an outpatient therapist, Shelly is often called upon in-house. She helps staff debrief after critical incidents. Shelly has also come in to support families, staff and clients during intense times of need.
