On September 25, 2023, Holy Cross Manor celebrated their diversity and uniqueness at Holy Cross’s Heritage Day. This day was a way to showcase the diversity at the site. Countries showcased included: Nigeria, Ghana, Philippines, Zimbabwe, Ethiopia, Nepal, Germany, Scotland, and Canada. The purpose of the event was to build understanding through education.
As part of the celebration there was a world fashion show where staff wore the traditional dress from around the world. A description of the clothing and the country of origin was read as staff walked on the red carpet. The celebration also included a world food tasting.
Holy Cross Manor’s resident population is growing in diversity. There are a number of Chinese residents who asked for congee for breakfast. The site worked with Sodexo, their food provider, to be able to offer it at least once a week.
After the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic, staff went all out to decorate the residents’ home for the holidays in a north pole theme. Staff involved residents and families and incorporated their ideas spreading joy throughout the building. They did such a wonderful job that Global News did a story about it. Following the story, the site received calls from around the world saying how happy families were with the site’s efforts to make residents feel valued.
