Tami Babych, health care aide, educator

One of the first people new employees meet at the Edmonton General Continuing Care Centre is Tami, the health care aide and educator. That first meeting is not the last; Tami works hard to get to know each new employee. She learns everyone’s name and circles back to ensure they have what they need to successfully care for residents and patients. Her approach is welcoming and new hires and longer-serving staff alike are willing to reach out to her on any situation.

When staffing reached a crisis point at the height of the pandemic, an agency helped fill vacancies. Tami worked with agency staff to coordinate orientations for new hires. She collaborated with administration, the agency, managers and her education colleges. She worked tirelessly to provide education and support to new hires. Agency staff commented that Tami’s education was the most helpful they had ever encountered.

One of her talents that most stands out for staff are her communication skills. Tami communicates calmly, professionally and effectively. She’s always approachable, knowledgeable and resourceful. She customizes her coaching to help staff whose first language is not English and ensures training is fun and everyone is engaged.

Tami is a true collaborator. Her work with others reflects her genuine desire to instill the skills and practices that allow staff to provide residents and patients the best care possible.
