Shahezad Maredia, licensed practical nurse
Only one week into his new position as LPN at Chateau Vitaline, Shahezad was the charge nurse when the site had a fire incident. He put his finely tuned multi-tasking skills into action, working with the fire department, calling the manager and updating staff, residents and family members. His calm demeanour and professional manner played an important role in ensuring residents and staff were safe and families remained calm.
Shahezad’s professionalism and leadership shine through even when there is no emergency. As part of an interdisciplinary team, he communicates doctors’ orders with families and residents, follows up with the pharmacy about new orders and medication and processes lab work orders for all residents. He’s recently taken the lead in updating care-plans, codes of the month, hazard assessments and the staff task list. He’s also certified in foot care, providing timely advice and care to residents with foot problems.
Shahezad is now sharing his knowledge and skills with others. After completing the It’s Your Move master training course, he is training staff onsite. Thanks to his friendly approach and can-do spirit, staff feel comfortable and valued – and inspired to follow his example to go above and beyond what’s expected.
