Lisa Shirley, unit manager

This is the year Lisa is retiring from her position as unit manager of the hospice unit at the Edmonton General Continuing Care Centre, but her commitment to honesty, trustworthiness and integrity will continue to inspire the many staff she has influenced over the years.

When staff have concerns, Lisa provides a safe space to talk freely. She is an excellent listener who follows through with action regarding any issues or to prevent or resolve a conflict. Lisa is thorough and fair when assessing challenging situations and makes sure to always hear and consider the perspectives of others.

Her staff view her as a pillar that anchors the 9Y hospice work team – always fair, always respectful and always willing to share her time and expertise. Lisa contributes to providing the highest quality of care for patients. “How can I help” is a phrase people often hear from her.

After her retirement, her impact will continue to live on, and every day, her commitment to integrity, caring for patients and generosity to staff will be sorely missed.
