Kim Roberts, unit manager

Kim advocates for the best quality of care for her most vulnerable patients, those in palliative care at St. Mary’s Hospital. She attends daily rounds and notifies families of any changes in patient status, and ensures all those who come through Unit 2's doors are treated with dignity and kindness.

Kim is always looking for the most innovative equipment to provide patient comfort, especially for the most vulnerable. Kim works hard to ensure the palliative patients are well cared for, and makes sure their regular visitors are comfortable and are aware of family supports they may require in the future. Before the pandemic, Kim was an advocate for volunteers on the unit, particularly with palliative patients. She always ensured the coffee/tea/cookie cart was staffed each week for the patients and families to enjoy a little treat (and the staff, if there were any extra).

Kim continues to do regular wellness checks on all her staff, constantly reminding them to “take care of you”. During COVID-19, Kim has been checking in on staff who are at home isolating just to make sure they know that the team is thinking of them and can't wait for their return.

Throughout the pandemic, Kim has been working tirelessly, extending her hours almost every week to ensure her staff have ongoing support. Kim delayed her retirement to support the needs of Unit 2 when the pandemic began, and this generous gesture did not go unnoticed. Kim has been the heart of the Unit 2 team and will continue to be after her retirement.
