Covenant Health’s Medical Device Reprocessing Department (MDRD) breaks the chain of infection by pristine reprocessing of reusable semi-critical and critical devices through evidence-based practice. MDRD is the foundation upon which the entire chain of medical procedures rests; without impeccably clean and sterile equipment, there are no surgeries. They are challenged with aged equipment that can break down and emergency events like floods which impact their ability to deliver their services. When faced with challenges, they never shy away from sharing the events with the emergency disaster management team to build a response plan and immediately begin working with other teams and the site to accommodate surgeries. They are transparent.

The Covenant Health MDRD leadership team implemented a process that requires their staff to be CSA certified. This practice has now become a standard for all organizations with MDRD. The leadership group constantly tracks their services through metrics like the reporting and learning system. They use the information they find to identify safety gaps and work to ensure they are improving and bridging any uncovered gaps. MDRD leadership engages other groups as required to provide input and advice.

The MDRD leadership team supports the Covenant Health sites which perform surgery with integrity ensuring everyone feels heard, safe and well served through each step of their journey.
