Jocelyn Robertson, pharmacist
Going above and beyond is what Jocelyn Robertson, a pharmacist at Banff Mineral Springs does. She takes time with patients and their families to explain their medications in plain language. Jocelyn explores other drug interventions when she thinks there may be alternatives for improved symptom management. When patients lack funds for medication, she helps them apply for emergency drug coverage and supports their transition back into the community.
With one patient, who had been told she was already on the medication she needed to be on to prevent more strokes, Jocelyn met with the family to get a robust history about the patient. From this she developed a plan to enhance that patient’s life and ease her caregiver's stress.
When the hospital had a significant influx of admitted mental health and addictions patients, she reached out to the urgent mental health team to explore what services were available for admitted patients. A collaborative meeting about this issue, led to clarifying roles and increasing the knowledge of and skills of frontline staff.
Jocelyn is a dedicated lifelong learner; she seeks knowledge to better serve those around her – both staff and patients. To help the site better understand which medications require an independent double check, she reviewed the policy and connected with medication management to help clarify the information which was then shared with the team. She created training materials to support staff and physicians in using Connect Care.
