Greg Kern, chaplain
Called to serve, chaplain Greg Kern, honours his commitments to residents, staff and families. Residents count on him for accessible spiritual and emotional support. Every Wednesday he leads a church service which has become one of the best attended programs at the site with over 50 people gathering in the chapel while others watch live streaming from their suites.
Chaplain Greg does one-on-one visits with residents to connect with them and support their needs; these visits could include weekly pool games or bedside or outdoor chats. He shows up at work each day with a light-hearted attitude that shines in every interaction. Greg creates a safe atmosphere where staff and residents can be vulnerable and open without fear of judgement. His office is often empty as he is moving throughout the building.
Greg promotes and encourages self-care by checking on staff and residents and he genuinely cares about their wellbeing. He models self-care and encourages others to take quiet moments during the workday to reflect especially after a difficult interaction.
He provides feedback, offers solutions and supports the resolution of ethical conflict. He shares new ideas and a different perspective on challenging situations and encourages those involved to reflect on and consider alternative outcomes. Chaplain Greg consistently shows up and challenges the team to grow and live out Covenant Care’s mission, vision and values.
