Daina Flemming, food services worker/cook I

Daina Flemming, food services worker/cook I, cooperates with residents and teams from the site to deliver exceptional services. She coordinated meetings with her team and residents to improve residents’ quality of life. She listened and resolved residents’ dietary concerns. After residents shared memories with Daina about comfort foods, she researched old cookbooks and recipes to provide them with some favourite old-fashioned foods.

Committed to enhancing residents’ quality of life, if someone has feedback regarding a resident’s needs, not just dietary, she tries to implement something to benefit the resident when serving meals. One resident cannot function until she receivers her meal. Daina knows this so makes sure she and her tablemates get their meals quickly. Daina is patient with another resident who tries to clean up dinner dishes by moving them from one table to another. She encourages the resident to continue to be helpful and guides her.

She takes on initiatives beyond her regular duties. Daina revamped the order product guides by working with the Sysco team and her coworkers. This resulted in a more user-friendly and accurate ordering process. Daina is an excellent teacher. She spearheaded developing new training materials and trained new employees.

At Christmas, Daina contributed several handmade pieces of furniture she had made to the holiday decorations in the cafeteria. The pieces were stunning. She helped bring smiles and joy to staff and residents which were missing during the pandemic.
