Charmie Liquit, licensed practical nurse
By seeing the person first, licensed practical nurse (LPN) Charmie Liquit sees the people on her team as individuals with important, diverse voices to be heard and she sees the residents she cares for as individuals with complex needs and a rich history before their diagnosis. She works on a primarily dementia care unit where most of her residents cannot speak for themselves, so she advocates for their needs. She collaborates with families, supports her team to ensure each resident’s complex needs are met with high quality care. If there is a cultural barrier with one of the residents, she looks for solutions with their family and her team to meet the resident’s needs.
As the LPN in-charge she is the leader on the floor and models making all staff feel included and part of the team. She ensures casual staff feel welcome and comfortable on her unit. Charmie supports and coaches her team in a kind, unassuming manner. She facilities healthy relationships amongst her diverse team by hearing and considering all voices. Charmie has a respectful, kind voice that is unwavering in her call for justice and fair equitable treatment of everyone. She advocates for staff who do not feel comfortable or safe speaking up and encourages them to express themselves.
