Armando Rodriguez Perez, environmental service worker

Being a housekeeper may not be the most glamourous job; however, Armando Rodriguez Perez, environmental services worker, does not let it limit him. His action, dedication and consistency catch staff and residents’ attention. He speaks with each resident and patient to understand their feelings. Armando listens with empathy and shows his kindness through his actions.

If a resident is homesick and misses chores from home, Armando invites them to be part of the team. He gets them with a clean cloth and encourages them to clean the room with him. Such care helps residents release stress and anxiety.

Armando lets his scheduled tasks be wrapped around the needs of patients and residents demonstrating that their needs are as important as getting his job cleaning a room done. His willingness to listen to the needs of others and identify how he can help, allows Armando to serve in unexpected ways. His flexibility in his work routine does not compromise it, instead it elevates it in the eyes of those receiving his service.

Armando is bilingual in Spanish and English. When a Spanish-speaking patient could not communicate in English, Armando willingly supported this person. He bridged the communication gap between the patient and the care team. It eliminated embarrassment and ensured the patient understood the care.

He understands the challenges a major change can bring so he accepts everyone with whom he works.
