Catherine ("Happy") Calilap, licensed practical nurse

As a licensed practical nurse at Youville Home, Catherine’s – or Happy, as everyone calls her – practice revolves around the residents. While the resident is her number one priority, she’s a far cry from being single-minded. She knows that the best outcomes for her residents come when she involves multiple parties in the residents’ care.

Happy actively seeks out the thoughts and opinions of the family, giving them a voice and the feeling that they’re an important part of the decision-making process. She also values the role health care attendants play and appreciates hearing their concerns and suggestions. Happy highly respects their input and that feeling is very much reciprocated.

She seeks direction from doctors when needed and regularly consults with her superiors, keeping them fully informed about the measures she’s taking to support the resident. Happy truly believes in collaboration, and lives the motto that “together we are better”. Her positive attitude means engaging with others is as easy and enjoyable as it is important for her residents. It’s no surprise that everyone calls her “Happy” – she brings a breath of fresh air to every interaction with residents, family and staff.
