Rick Kline, chaplain

Rick has the innate ability to see when someone is hurting and help guide them through their pain without judgement or bias. He takes time with each patient at Banff Mineral Springs Hospital to listen and fully understand all their complex needs. He regularly goes above and beyond to remove barriers by researching and providing support on tasks that can take away precious time from loved ones.

Rick ensures that families have the opportunity to participate in decision making at the end of life and comforts the families, friends and care teams navigating through difficult times. During the pandemic, his additional efforts to discover ways to include loved ones near and far in each step of the patient journey has been so important.

Rick has been a vital part of acute care since joining the team. His background in law, business, Indigenous affairs, palliative care and social services has impacted the lives of so many patients. He not only goes above and beyond for our patients, but also keeps his door open to staff who may be struggling with burnout and compassion fatigue, especially throughout the pandemic. Rick's wealth of experience dealing with palliative patients allows the staff to feel comfortable expressing their compassion fatigue while still advocating for the patients’ wishes and giving an unbiased opinion.
